One of the nation’s 29 special estuarine research areas, the GTM Research Reserve begins in the north at Ponte Vedra and continues south for 40 miles to Marineland. The reserve’s 74,000 acres include salt marshes and a maritime hammock perfect for exploring, hiking, or launching boats and kayaks. The impressive Visitor Center offers life-size replicas of key fish and wildlife living in the estuary. Admission is free. Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.
