This is the second Roman amphitheater to be restored in the city and you can only visit it by booking in advance. The Small Colosseum, called Teatro Marcello by locals, was the first real theater in Rome. It was in fact built in stone rather than removable wooden structures that were used at the time. It became the architectural model for all theaters that followed. The shape, except that it is semicircular, is reminiscent of the Colosseum, built 80 years later.
