The Dolhuys resembles an old church, but actually sheltered people with contagious diseases like leprosy and the plague, and housed people with mental health problems. Visit the museum housed there today and explore the minds of artists, writers and scientists who lives with disabilities and mental illness. Each of the featured artists battled demons but created art which has enriched hundreds of thousands of lives, from Vincent van Gogh to Edvard Munch. You’ll also see one of the very few remaining isolation chambers in Europe, dating from the 16th century, and find out exactly what it feels like to be locked away in such a dark and confided space.

Oldest building in Haarlem that now holds a psychiatric museum. Great place to visit as it not ''heavy duty stuff'', but presented in a nice way. The building also hold a nice place to relax and have a drink and small bite.
