It's the tallest mountain in Colorado, and the 2nd tallest in the contiguous U.S. Not for the feint of heart. Black Clouds trailhead is about a mile from our cabin, or the other trailheads are about 10 minutes away.

Mount Elbert is a great (not very difficult but may be crowded) hike to the highest point in Colorado. It is located just outside of town and easily accessible (no 4WD needed in summer months).

Mount Elbert is the highest point in the State of Colorado, at 14,421 feet. Trailhead entrance is just outside the town of Leadville.

Colorado's tallest peak, the south trailhead for Mount Elbert is quickly accessible from the cabin. Often referred to as a gentle giant, Mount Elbert is a relatively gradual hike over 10 miles.
