Harbourside eaterie, with veggie options. Good decor and friendly, helpful staff. Sometimes a bit of a wait for the food, but worth it. Easy to find at the very end of the main road through Lochinver village. Head towards the harbour. Cream coloured building on the left, opposite the water. Remember to phone in advance of arriving in the area!( Think "Book early to avoid disappointment!"...) 01571 844085 but book in advance

Inverkirkaig has a stony, short beach with a lovely aspect out to sea. if you continue past the beach (with sea on your right) there is a carpark opposite a gate. This is the start of the walk to the Falls of Kirkaig. This walk takes about an hour each way. Don't wear your stilettos for this one - proper walking boots are best - especially if it has been raining. The car park is about a 10 minute drive from Lochinver (approx a mile and a half distance) and is accessed by taking the left turn over the bridge, after the pedestrian crossing which is on the main road through the village. Continue straight on this wiggly, single track road, past the beach (after oggling the view) and the car park will be on your right hand side.

Let the soft, white shell sand sift between your toes, while you admire the aquamarine waters of this horse-shoe shaped bay. Through the village of Lochinver towards the harbour and take first left, over the bridge, after the pedestrian crossing. This is a scenic walk which generally takes about an hour each way. Gentle climb, ending with a steep decent to feel the spray of the falling water on your face. But be careful, no stilettos for this walk - especially if it's been raining. Sensible footwear (walking boots) are best for this stravaig.

Enter the ancient Caledonian Pine forest after travelling through the village and going left over bridge after the crossing. Straight on up hill and past the school which is overshadowed by the Iconic Suilven (mountain). Carry on over cattle grid and straight ahead into signed carpark. Go through gate and ahead (don't take first path on left 'If you're brave enough). Straight on to wee junction. Take left. Lookout for spiders, dragon nests, Wigwams, a see-saw...and at the T junction go left. Now take first right. White Shore path. Follow this path through a canopy of branches and ancient guardian trees down to the shore. Don't pass up the chance to grab a moment or two and rest on one of the various scattered benches. Close your eyes and use your ears and nose. Breathe in the pine-scented peace. It will make your day complete. Plenty wildlife for you to see and hear - lookout for Herons.

A short 5 minutes on the wee, open boat, will ferry you over to Handa, an RSPB Reserve. They had a WHITE Puffin this year!! You can take a picnic over and stay for the day, an hour, or just a flying visit. The boat travels across regularly. Huge cliffs, under-pinned with salty sea stacks or giant proportions - be careful near the edges of this island! if you like your feathered-friends, this is the place to go. You can check seasonally which species you can best catch sight of in advance with a bit of Googling.

Step off the jetty and onto the boat for a tour of the lochs and sea beneath the Kylsku Bridge. Even on a 'dreich' day, the atmosphere can be etheral. Then, step off the boat and head into the Kylesku Hotel for a steaming, frothy coffee and a scone, or maybe the full seafood extavaganza? Delicious!

VISIT BEV'S FISH AND CHIP SHOP! - Another tasty, tasty food place. Fish as fresh as you like, golden, crispy chips - what's not to like? It's at the gable end of the traditional built white cottage used for check-in to the campsite, so don't look for a commercial shop front! DELICIOUS!!

Limited public transport. Vehicle or bike are best.

Public transport is quite tricky around here. If you are driving - YOU MUST BE ABLE TO REVERSE! Please know that PASSING PLACES are just that - don't park in them! It is against the law. You ONLY ever go into passing places on YOUR SIDE OF THE ROAD. Never go into one on the opposite side, even if you are trying to be helpful !

Be polite on the road

if someone gives way to you, please acknowledge it. We like a wee wave to say 'thanks!'. If you do NOT acknowledge it, it can be considered rude and some people may be offended.
