Located 5km (20mins) away from Casa de Cristal. Often spelled as Udawattakele, this is a historic 104 hectare forest reserve on a hill-ridge in the city of Kandy. It was known as "Uda Wasala Watta" in Sinhalese meaning "the garden above the royal palace". The reserve also contains a great variety of uncommon plants and species, including extensive birds, monkeys, snakes and reptiles. Being easily accessible and containing a variety of flora and fauna the forest has a great educational and recreational value, especially for foreign tourists and bird watchers.

Easily accessible from Kandy city, this forest is truly a sanctuary for nature lovers, joggers and those looking for peace of mind. Enjoy the great variety of flora and fauna, but beware of the leaches!
