The best coffee shop on the street. The food is great too, if you get there early!

Great coffee in front of Bermondsey Square. They also have a shop in Maltby Street.

Originally the site of a 19th Century house for guards protecting churchyard graves, it’s now in the heart of some of the city’s finest eateries. Head here for some of the tastiest coffee, and walls adorned with local art that’s all for sale.

This tiny café was originally a 19th century posting for guards entrusted to protect the graves of St Mary Magdalen churchyard from body-snatchers. It languished for years as a garden loo before being restored to its former glory in 2014. The café retains the watch house's original octagonal structure and bare brick walls, serving up fresh artisanal baguettes and crumbly tarts. In winter you can sip the creamy butternut squash and lentil soups by an open fire.

The best coffee in town. This one is the original and it’s namesake, located in a tiny old watch house which was once used to guard St Mary Magdalen Church graveyard. If you’re hungry, try the much bigger branch on Shad Thames (listed above).
