One Tree Hill is situated in Cornwall Park and early European settlers dubbed the area One Tree Hill, after the solitary tree on the top sadly, the tree is no longer there.
One Tree Hill is a 182 metre volcanic peak in the One Tree Hill suburb of Auckland. To get to One Tree Hill from Newmarket take a train to Greenlane and walk 1 kilometre along Greenlane West. By car take the Greenlane exit off the off the Southern Motorway and turn right into Greenlane.
Picnic: Sister parks One Tree Hill and adjacent Cornwall Park offer expansive tranquil beauty and BYO barbeque dining. These urban oasis featuring rolling paddocks, numerous walking tracks, frolicking livestock, and playgrounds.

This beautiful elevated area provides good views of Auckland harbour. Across the road from the garden is a very popular cafeteria. To reach the garden is about a 5 minute drive.
Orakei Basin is one of the volcanoes in the Auckland volcanic field. It has an explosion crater around 700 metres wide. After the eruption about 85,000 years ago, it became a freshwater lake that had an overflow stream in the vicinity of present Orakei Road Bridge. The pleasant walkway around the basin is open 24 hours and is about 5 minutes drive away.

You can drive to Devonport but a better experience is to take the short ferry crossing on the Auckland Harbour (Waitemata Harbour). There is car parking close to the ferry terminal or alternatively the train station is adjacent to the ferry terminal. Taking the ferry will give you a excellent view of our beautiful harbour and port facilities. Devonport is a lovely seaside village with restaurants and shops which are open every day. It is also very pleasant to walk along the waterfront and view the harbour from a different perspective. The ferry terminal is about 10 minutes drive.
