The Turangi Tavern has homely meals, great for winding down after a long day of activities. The restaurant stops serving from the main menu around 8.30pm - best to get down early to enjoy classic pub grub!

Sightseeing
You can see and feed trout in their natural environment. There is a river walk and feeding ponds for the kids. It is reasonably priced kids under 16 free with a paying adult ($15 per adult). The scenery is stunning.

Often described as New Zealand’s best one day alpine trek, this 19.4 km tramp is simply breath-taking and covers some of the most dramatic landscapes you’ll ever see. Passing over varied and spectacular volcanic terrain, in the presence of active volcanoes, you’ll experience some of Tongariro National Park’s special gifts. A cold mountain spring, lava flow, an active crater, steam vents, emerald coloured lakes and magnificent views combine to make this an enjoyable and memorable day experience.

The food here is incredible. A bit more pricey than in town but serves stunning food! The Pork belly is a favourite of ours. The restaurant closes around 8.30pm but will stay open if people are eating.

Fantastic family cafe, playing 1950's music, excellent food and board games to play at every table. The 1950s is everywhere particularly in the decor. Sometimes, even the staff are in 1950s dress. Moorish cakes, beautiful tasty baked treats. Awesome Eggs Benedict.

Turangi has many wonderful walks but the most popular would be the Tongariro River Trail. Recently developed into a loop people can now walk for about three and a half hours without covering the same section twice. Beautiful vistas of Lake Taupo, the Tongariro River and Mt Pihanga combined with pockets of gorgeous native bush and trees like matipo and rewarewa make for a diverse and interesting walk. In the summer tui are attracted to the copious kowhai trees and sometimes kereru (wood pigeon) and morepork can be spotted. Fantails and other birdlife are abundant. The trail can be broken into two sections and starts officially at the Turangi i-SITE. As the i-SITE is open seven days a week
