This an easy (near-flat) 10 minute walk from our house, with lovely city views on the way. Either come back the same way, go 20 minutes up the hill to the Mount Victoria Lookout for 360 degree views, or walk 5 minutes down to the restaurant hub and bus interchange at Courtenay Place.

Head towards the city to find the local indoor swimming pool and gym with spa and sauna, a great kids playground, a place you can learn to sail (book on www.learntosail.org.nz) and several more cafe's. Keep walking and within 15 minutes you'll be at the National Museum and Art Gallery.

On fine days you'll see these green four-wheeled covered 'cycles' all around the waterfront including at nearby Oriental Bay. If you'd like to hire one for an hour or two to cruise the waterfront then it's about 15 minutes walk away.
