Laguna Beach is a great beach town, a place for the stars back in the 1930's. Full of art and vintage shops and a great boardwalk beach. Volleyball played on the beach front.

It rarely gets cold here in Southern California, especially as we are 30mins from the beach. Maybe a jacket if you come in the winter.

Safe City.
Rancho Santa Margarita is one of the safest cities in the USA. Saying that, its always helpful not to leave valuable items in your car, but its very safe to walk around at night.
Places/Restaurants do generally close early (around 9pm) but there are a few that open til late.
