Lets be honest, if you want to stay in one of my places you will propably like kitesurfing. Parthena Beach is one of the best surfing spots in Greece and Europe. The beach takes its name after a little church on an island at the exact opposite of the shoreline. Despite that the beach is famous for sports like surfing you can definetely enjoy its unique atmosphere and water while swimming with safety at the west side. During the non wind days you can even try visiting the island swimming or paddleboarding. Its an experience you have to try. Along the beach there are two tavernas and two bar restaurants so you can take a rest or enjoy your meal after a sunbathing or a kite session.

Portara is the first sight you see coming to Naxos. It is giant breathtaking door made out of marble since ancient times. It is said it is the remains of an ancient temple dedicated to the god Apollo

Alyko offers two of the most beautiful beaches on the island. But thats not what is only known for. There are remains of incomplete buildings that are now decorated with stunning graffitis. Take some minutes after hitting the water and explore the remains. You will be amazed!

Moutsouna is a small fishing village on the eastern coast of the island and offers 2 small beaches. At the small port of Moutsouna, many fishing boats moor in summer and give a picturesque atmosphere. This port was used for the transport of marble from the marble quarries of Koronos-Apiranthos. There the marble was loaded in boats and was transported to Athens or other islands.

City/town information

Apeiranthos is one of the most beautiful villages of Naxos island. It is located high enough on Fanari mountain to be easily accesible but offer amazing views. Apeiranthos village is by many considered the crown jewel of Naxos. Much of this belief is due to the fact that over the centuries it has managed to retain its unique authenticity which is apparent in every step you take, in every alley you walk and wherever you look. The feeling one gets is more that of a northern mainland Greece village than that of a Cycladic Island. This is partly due to its architecture and stone built houses but mainly due to its altitude, the centre of the village is located at approximately 600m from sea level. This is no ordinary village, far from it; it is uniquely expressed in its awareness of history from several angles. At Apeiranthos you will find not one or two but 5 museums, Stone built towers, old houses and churches, marble paved alleys, traditional small souvenir and local craftsmanship shops. It is a photographer’s paradise in all its glory…

Halki has a long history and the numerous neoclassical houses and buildings are testimony to the wealth and power the village once exerted in the surrounding area. Apart from the lovely old mansions and the picturesque churches, the village itself has colorful alleys that give visitors the sense that they have somehow gone back in time. Many well preserved houses, Venetian Towers and fine Byzantine churches can be found in the area. One of these is amongst Naxos’ oldest churches, the Church of Panagia (the Virgin), dating from the 9th century with some beautiful Byzantine and post-Byzantine frescoes. It is a very fertile area of Naxos and in conjunction with the olive groves that cover many square kilometers, the “Citron” tree from which the famous Naxian liqueur is produced, is everywhere to be seen. The mansion of the Vallindra Kitron distillery is at the heart of the village and can be entered gratis. You are given a tour of the site where the Kitron liqueur made from Citron leaves is produced. The tour provides plenty of interesting facts and you can see the workings of the distillery. Naturally the tour ends with a delicious sampling of the product as well as the brand of Ouzo which is also distilled on the premises. In recent years new facilities have improved the buildings attractiveness for visitors. These include an art gallery, an excellent restaurant and at the square, a snack bar-café for a quick bite to eat.
