The local historic town – famous during the gold rush! Pick up some tasty treats at the farmer’s market, enjoy beautiful home-made cakes at the choice of local cafe’s. There’s several good restaurants and pubs to choose from too. •The Stag Inn: newly reopened in the centre of town. Lovely beer garden and very dog friendly. • Y Gader: a tapas bistro and bar owned and run by a couple from the Basque region. Great range of home cooked tapas. Booking is recommended • T.H. Roberts Coffee Shop: Delicious homemade food and amazing cakes. Dog friendly • Y Sospan: an old medieval jail dating back to 1606, grab a seat upstairs and soak in the atmosphere of old beams and stone walls. Delicious range of homemade food. Café during the day and bistro type meals at night • The Ship Inn: has just had a complete refurbishment, beautifully decorated and with an updated menu. Good food, child and dog friendly. Right on the old square in town There is good size Co-op and Eurospar stocked with all the usual things plus some local produce too. Both are open until 10pm (except Sundays) and within easy reach of the house so good if you’ve forgotten anything or need first day supplies! • Poptvr Dref — Local bakery for bread and cakes • Roberts Brothers – excellant butchers on the high street in Dolgellau, great for the BBQ • Youngs - Locally sourced fruit and vegetables. Delivery available • Dylanwad Wine Shop - A great selection of wines and Italian deli products. They also offer free delivery to Arthog on a Wednesday. Cader Ales - Locally crafted ale from this microbrewery based in Dolgellau. Free local delivery is available.

As food is cooked to order then a wait may be expected at peak times for take away. No delivery.

Just along the estuary trail – catch the little steam railway to the headland and then the short hop on the water taxi to Barmouth for sandy beaches; crabbing; donkeys and of course ice cream and tasty fish and chips!

A train trip down the coast to Tywyn and Aberdovey Beaches

The nearest train station is Morfa Mawddach, 0.8 miles from Tan y Coed, a off raod walk on the Mawddach Trail The train station at Morfa Mawddach is a small request stop platform, just stick your arm out for the train to stop. Pay on the train with cash or card. Dogs go free. Trains run at approximately 2-hour intervals. The timetable is available at https://tfwrail.wales
