伝説によると初代天皇である神武天皇が九州から難波津に到着した折、現在の大阪城付近に両祭神を祀ったのが始まりとされています。後に現在の場所に移されました。境内の右手（北側）に、多くの末社が祀られていて人々の様々な願いを叶えてくれるとされ、古くから大阪の地を守り信仰を得てきた神社です。
According to legend, the first emperor, Emperor Jinmu founded when arrived at Namba from Kyushu, and worshiped the Goddess near Osaka Castle now. It was moved to the current place. On the right hand side (north side) of the precincts, many shrines are enshrined and will fulfill various wishes of people.
