The best way to get to NYC is via Metro North
You can walk to the train station, go up the stairs and get your ticket at the automatic ticket dispensers. Buy a round trip Off Peak ticket. You can always pay the update to Peak onboard. But YOU SHOULD NOT buy the ticket on board as they charge you a $5 surcharge. If you don't have a return ticket, buy it at Grand Central Station before you head home.
If you want to take your car to the train station, there are two parts of the parking lot. For one of them, you need to have a permit, for the other, you can pay $9 to park all day. The private parking is the one closest to my house.
