Parks & Nature

Duthie Park (free entry) is a fabulous park located close to the city centre, which is popular with locals and visitors alike. The play areas in Duthie Park are superb for children and are a great attraction for the park. The David Welch Winter Gardens (free entry) is a fantastic glass house complex that provides a year round indoor garden experience. It is a great place to wander and is home to many exotic plants including one of the largest collections of cacti in Britain. The park has a wonderfully spacious feel and includes open green spaces, mature deciduous and evergreen trees, superb flower beds and a cascading ornimental pond system with wetland area. The open grassed area has a band stand that is still in use, cricket is played in the summer and special events like Opera in the Park and fun days make full use of the space. There are a number of statues and commemorations dotted around the park which provide local historical interest. Duthie Park gained Aberdeen's first Green Flag Park Awards in 2013. The award is granted by Keep Scotland Beautiful and recognises quality green spaces.

Not really a beach, but a nice spot to view Aberdeen Harbour and the city. You can also see boats coming in and out the docks. From here you can take a ferry to Orkney/Shetlands Islands for which you would need to allocate some days for the trip + visits (check NorthLink ferries page)

Formerly independent university founded in 1495 and now an integral part of the University of Aberdeen. Its historic buildings are the centrepiece of the University of Aberdeen's Old Aberdeen campus, often known as the King's or King's College campus. The focal point of the college, as well as its oldest building, is the late 15th century King's College Chapel. A number of other historic buildings remain, with others being subject to renovation and rebuilding in the 18th and 19th centuries. In the early 20th century, a great deal of expansion saw the university buildings increase around the historic college buildings. In the later 20th century, the university expanded dramatically in size, dominating Old Aberdeen and expanding out from the High Street with a number of modern buildings.
