Just call 757-336-5556. Whoever you choose, Say NO to Assateauge Explorer, they don't go very far and rarely see ponies.

Take bikes to the beach! The bicycle trail spits you out on the best part of the beach away from the parking lots and all the people and to a wider part of the beach. This bicycle rental is the closest to the entrance of the National Wildlife Refuge and beach. There is plenty of PARKING and they will give you a map of ll the trail you can take bikes on Assateague. And our wonderful friend Terri and my cousin Michael work there.

This a great place to rent kayaks. They have a great launch over in front of the lighthouse where you can often find ponies on the waters edge or they will drop the kayaks off right at the door of Baywatch if you arrange it and you can launch from the house.

Voted America's #1 ice cream. A must try! My advice is to go in the off times like as soon as they open or around 2:00. the line gets super long in the evenings but does move quickly. You can also buy pints and quarts to bring home.

The best casual seafood restaurant around! Worth the short trip off the island. Might as well order the Seafood Combo Platter. They also have the best raw seafood market.

BRING BUGSPRAY and sunscreen!
Sometimes the island is out the mosquitoes are so bad here at times. And things are more expensive on the island too. Sunscreen is expensive and the stores can sell out.

Make restaurant reservations! And go at off-times…
Our restaurant scene is chaotic in the summer. If you choose a restaurant that takes reservations make them as far in advance as you can. And don’t go right at mealtimes. Order your subs for the beach the day before. We are short on employees here too and it has caused restaurants to have crazy wait times and weird hours. They do the best the can!

Grocery shop before you get to the island
We do have an Island Grocery store but its expensive, busy and doesn't have much variety. There is a propane grill here to use. Think about having a bbq at least one night to avoid crowded restaurants.

Please do not climb over the fence!
Stay out of other people's yards! You cant imagine what guests will do to follow the ponies around. Do not go over the fence unless you have special permission from us to launch kayaks. All of the shores of Chincoteague are covered with razor sharp oyster shells, wear shoes! The ponies are wild and can kick and bite, keep your distance and under no circumstance go any further North of Baywatch property, all the rest of Leonard Lane is Private Property!
