It's hard to drive around the Blue Ridge Mountains without seeing great views all around, but we picked some of our favorites as well as our favorite hikes.
Beautiful spot with many amazing views and lots of hiking opportunities. Also home of the Highland Games every July. Located 45 minutes from Hickory Lodge.

An easy 1-mile scenic hike along the Blue Ridge Parkway with tall waterfall at the end. Only 13 minutes away and particularly beautiful in the spring and fall.

There is an access point for the Blue Ridge Parkway just 5 minutes from Hickory Lodge and it is an absolute MUST. Lots of great overlooks in either direction. It does close in sections for inclement weather so check blueridgeparkway.org at the time of your visit.

Calloway Peak via Profile Trail is a difficult 7.1 mile total out and back trail located in Grandfather Mountain State Park. There is 2,300 ft of elevation change but the view at the top is worth it. There are a few ladders near the top.
