Sightseeing

The 'Sconset Bluff Walk (also known as the Cliff Walk) is the most scenic path in Nantucket. It goes from the picturesque village of Siasconset—where small fishing cottages covered in roses cluster along the bluff—to Sankaty Head Lighthouse. This public walkway cuts in front of some of the most beautiful properties on the island. To one side, walkers see lavish summer homes, and to the other, the bluff down to the Atlantic Ocean.

Brant point is a very small but powerful symbol of Nantucket. It greets you as you enter the harbor area and is there to bid you farewell. The tradition is to throw a penny toward the lighthouse on your departure to assure a safe return. Located right next to the Coast Guard base, it is a great place to watch the boat traffic and get some great pictures.

Four-mile bike ride to end of Hummock Pond Road. Heavy surf; lifeguard (in season). No facilities. Occasionally foggy. Parking. Rip currents can be strong. Soft sand. This beach is very popular with surfers and young adults. Lack of facilities might make it less attractive to families with children, but be careful of undertow and rip tides.
