Parks & Nature

The North Grove is easy to access, and offers close-up spectacular views of majestic giant sequoias along its nearly level 1.5 mile (2.3 km) loop. Expect to take approximately one hour to hike the North Grove trail and if you have youngsters in strollers, this is the trail for you. A free, guided hike is available at 1:00 pm each Saturday, given by a knowledgeable docent or ranger.

Tall pines, incense cedars and black oaks grow around granite boulders in this canyon inhabited by Native Americans for 2000 years. The day use area allows parking for up to 15 cars and also has potable water and flush restrooms. One of our favorite areas for picnics, fishing and hiking.

No shoes allowed, and socks are 100% required. - Limited hours, so call ahead to make sure they're open. - Can be a bit hard to find - it's located within the Calaveras County Fairgrounds.
