Great for cycling because (being an old railway line) it's wide, safe and flat. Runs from the sea next to Fairbourne Golf club all the way to Dolgellau about 10 miles in total. Park for free on road there at Penrhyn Drive North or at Morfa Mawddach ( A stop on the main railway) if you wish to knock a couple of miles off. Morfa Mawddach is the next left after Fairbourne (very easy to miss as not well signposted) so find it on your phone map as also a great base to walk/cycle across Barmouth bridge. Bike rentals available Dolgellau, Barmouth and Coed y Brenin.

The Pony Path from Ty Nant is the main footpath up Cadair Idris from the Dolgellau side of the mountain. It is a reasonably safe route, which also offers the most rewarding views. There are three recommended routes to conquer Cadair Idris. It’s not an easy walk by any means, whichever route you take. They are all designated ‘hard/strenuous’ routes, and you should allow between five to six hours to get there and back. You’ll need to take plenty of food and drink as there isn’t a café (or toilet) on the summit.
