The southern entrance gate to Yosemite National Park is a 45 minute drive from your home base here at Rancho Tarantula.
It’s famed for its giant, ancient sequoia trees, and for Tunnel View, the iconic vista of towering Bridalveil Fall and the granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome. In Yosemite Village are shops, restaurants, lodging, the Yosemite Museum and the Ansel Adams Gallery, with prints of the photographer’s renowned black-and-white landscapes of the area.
If you have time, it's an absolute must!

The Lewis Creek National Scenic Trail to Corlieu Falls and Red Rock Falls is a 3.7 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Oakhurst, California that features waterfalls, beautiful spring flora and is rated as moderate in difficulty. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until November. Every year from mid-October to mid-November, tarantula mating season takes place and the town is full of tarantulas. Locals go out of their way to protect and respect the arachnids during this time. A Coarsegold Tarantula Festival is held in late October, traditionally the Saturday before Halloween, including tarantula racing, a competition for the hairiest legs of both men and women, and a pumpkin dessert contest.
Coarsegold is a historic gold mining town, with its first gold discovered in 1849. It's tiny, quaint and peppered with little shops and antique stores. A great place to stop on your way up to Yosemite, or grocery shopping in Oakhurst.
It's also home to Chukchansi Casino.
