Maddigan’s fish ‘n chips are the best in Hervey Bay. Be warned the portion sizes are enormous! Take your sweet lips fish and chips with a drink across the road to the lawn area for a delightful picnic. If you still got room for sweets just look up and you’ll see an irresistible ice cream parlour (70 flavours) right next to Maddigan’s. You guessed it, Rave reviews on TripAdvisor

Fraser Island stretches over 123 kilometres in length and 22 kilometres at its widest point. With an area of 184 000 hectares it is the largest sand island in the world. Fraser Island's World Heritage listing ranks it with Australia's Uluru, Kakadu and the Great Barrier Reef. Fraser Island is the largest island off the east coast of Australia, and the largest sand island in the world, making the drive up the eastern beach the perfect way to get a glimpse of Fraser’s size. The beach is popular with anglers, particularly in winter and spring when the tailor are running. The beach surface is generally firm, and the speed limit is 80km/h in most parts. The drive will take you past numerous designated beach camping zones, which are well marked and well patrolled, so be sure to have your vehicle access and camping permits on hand if you camp there. A short distance north is the Maheno wreck: the rusted skeletal remains of a 5,000-ton ocean liner that has been beached for over 80 years. Fraser Island also has great walking tracks! https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/fraser/walking-tracks.html https://visitfraserisland.com.au/about-fraser-island/barge-and-ferry-timetable http://www.fraserislandferry.com.au/ Fraser Island vehicle barges and passenger ferry services run daily from River Heads, south of Hervey Bay to World Heritage-listed Fraser Island. The Fraser Venture runs three services daily from River Heads (20 minutes south of Hervey Bay) to Wanggoolba Creek* and the Kingfisher Bay Ferry runs five services from River Heads to Kingfisher Bay Resort.  Limited parking is available on the roadside or at the ferry departure point. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service permits are required for driving and camping on the island and we advise all visitors to check the QPWS Conditions report pre-arrival. Drivers should be aware of tide times and keep off the beach for two hours either side of high tide (NOTE: Hire car companies will have their own conditions).  Driving conditions vary with weather and tides. Speed limits are 35km per hour on inland roads and 80km per hour on the Seventy-Five Mile Beach. Normal road rules apply. Carry essential spares as well as a tow rope, spade, water and first aid kit. The Fraser Venture departs River Heads (20 minutes south of Hervey Bay) daily, landing at Wanggoolba Creek on the western side of Fraser Island. Crossing time taking approximately 30 minutes. Wanggoolba Creek is the entry point on to Fraser Island and is directly opposite Eurong Beach Resort on the east coast of Fraser Island. It takes approximately 45 minutes (depending on the sand tracks) to access either Kingfisher Bay Resort or Eurong Beach Resort and the eastern beach attractions. Please note: this is strictly four-wheel-driving territory and it's always advisable to check the QPWS Fraser Island condition report prior to commencing your journey. From Hervey Bay From Boat Harbour Drive turn onto Elizabeth Street at the roundabout near the Urangan Woolworths and follow this road past airport.  You will need to take the well-signed left hand turn onto River Heads Road and follow the road all the way to the end.
