The neighbourhood is fantastic: Newington Green to the west has the best restaurants and is more sedate and sophisticated. Dalston to the East has the clubs, hip bars, late night pizza joints etc. Both are 5m walk.

Posh dining (best first): Primeur, Perilla, Trangallan (booking advisable for all 3).
Good gastro pubs and great for a beer: Lady Mildmay, The Alma (festive atmosphere), The Skolt Head (booking advisable).
Brunch: Dalston: Café Route, Dusty Knuckles Bakery (fresh bread probably London’s best); Newington Green: The Acoustic, Jolene.
Hip bars/ cocktail joints: Servant Jazz Quarters, High Water, Dalston Superstore (gay/ transvestite, totally rocks at weekend), Brilliant Corners, Vodoo Ray’s (late night pizza).
