Food places

My personal favorites regarding food places in Split. Enjoy!
This newly opened pizza place has quickly become one of the hottest not just in Split, but in the whole country. For those who value the true napoletan pizza experience this is a must. They have signature cocktails for every pizza on the menu. You can order pizzas with interesting titles and enjoy a variety of choices with a unique taste – with ingredients like shrimps, mortadella, mozzarella, prosciutto, homemade pesto, cherry tomatoes and olives. Make sure to always call & make a reservation since this is a very popular place.

Artičok is my personal favorites when it comes to Split restaurants. They offer daily menus (which they serve until 18:30) with 3-4 dishes which change every day. The prices for the daily menu are super affordable and the quality of the food never disappoints. Their menu is based on traditional dalmatian recipes with a modern twist. I highly recommend all of their sea food dishes!

Kinoteka food and bar is a place for you if you're looking for an amazing seating space - it is located in a 500 years old noble family palace in the heart of the Diocletian palace. Their menu can be described as a fusion of Dalmatian ingredients and Asian cuisine. They offer a wide range of signature cocktails too. Their sushi is one of the best in Split!

To je tako is an authentic mexican restaurant that people from around the world describe as "by far the best Mexican food we'd ever had". The portions are huge and you will not be disappointed with the taste - everything from the menu is packed with flavor. The only downside is that the place is a really small family restaurant and they are always full (people even queuing in front to get inside) so I definitely recommend to book a table couple of days earlier!

This pastry shop I just can't praise enough. With a tradition dating from 1937 it is the oldest pastry shop in town - hence the name - Tradicija :). Get there in the morning or early afternoon and grab one of their pastries for breakfast or snack - their dough recipes are really something else. Try their ice cream for a special treat! But my favorites are definitely the pastries - walnut roll especially!

Konoba Fetivi literally means ‘local’s restaurant’. Fetivi is a word in Split for a local, a person who has lived somewhere for a long time, and who was born in a certain place. Plus, konoba is an old Dalmatian word for a restaurant that leans on the traditional side. Meaning, if you’re looking to eat in a Konoba, that means fish, prosciutto, all kinds of seafood, and good wine will be served. One more important thing – it’s put in Michelin guide!

Bokeria restaurant is, simply put, stunning! This is a shining star in Split’s crown. Bokeria was inspired by the La Boqueira market in Barcelona. Modern and stylish restaurant in the old city offers sofisticated food, respectable wine list and excellent service. Bokeria is an amazing restaurant whose food reflects local Croatian traditions with a modern flare. This place is a tad bit pricier (price range: from 100 HRK and more per a dish, 13€) and it definitely requires a prior reservation. If you happen to go there, definitely try the Hrčin risotto - you won't regret that one!

Mazzgoon food is a family run modern restaurant located in the heart od Split old town. Choose a table next to the more than 1700 years old Diocletian palace walls, then pick a 21. century meal and enjoy. Choose from traditonal dishes such as brudet and gregada (different types of fish stews) or some more modern takes on dalmatian classics. Either way you won't be disappointed in Mazgoon.

Sightseeing

Ok, these places are really a must see when in Split!
The Vestibul was built until the beginning of the 4th century, as an original part of the ancient Palace. It is a circular hall, once domed by a dome. Definitely take a tour to the top for a fee of only 10 kunas - around 1 euro! If you can't find the tour, ask for it at the Etnographic museum!

The bell tower of the Cathedral (57m) is the most original Dalmatian Medieval architecture started in the 13th century. The bell tower was thoroughly reconstructed and somewhat altered at the turn of the 20th century. Definitely climb the steps all the way to the top of the bell tower (for a small fee) where a spectacular view of the entire Split awaits you!

Peristil is located right in front of the Cathedral of Saint Domnius and it's a great place to have your morning coffee or glass of wine in the evening. I also advise you to check the roman guards show on the Peristil square - every day at 12:00 am!

Cool Bars

The Marvlvs Library Jazz Bar is run by Tin who is an Argentinian poet with Croatian origins. The bar's name comes from the famous Croatian poet Marko Marulić - who is considered the father of Croatian literature. The atmosphere, the architecture of the place, the jazz and the books - make up the best bar in Split in my opinion.

Possibly the weirdest, and most unique, bar/club in Split, Academia Club Ghetto is a stop you must make if you’re looking for something outside the box. Located in the city center, just on the edges of the palace walls, it is the perfect place to find Split’s more colorful characters. Among locals it has the reputation of being a cool place to spend a night, whether it be out on the terrace or inside the club. No matter what you choose, you’re in for a treat.

This bar is a must see when in Split - it is super popular with the locals, especially during the weekends when it hosts local DJ's. The bar is unique because every month it features the art of a different artist on their walls, hence the name - Galerija. Basket is a small pub / cafe in Split and it is one of the oldest ones - opened in 1973. For years it functioned as a gathering place for all guest profiles, journalists from nearby Slobodna Dalmacija newspapers, workers from Skver, Jugoplastika and other companies of the time. Thanks to its pub design, there is an inevitable interaction between guests that gives the bar a touch of a small lounge where everyone knows everyone. Basket still remains today a small, modest place with affordable prices and a carefully selected selection of music that brings together all sorts of locals.

While it is one of the very few clubs in Split for which you have to pay an entrance fee, it is extremely popular. And the location in the very center of Split doesn’t hurt its popularity.
