Sightseeing

A ride on a steam train is a great way to see the Dee valley even when the weather’s not so good. Ride up to one of the 4 station stops and walk your way back.

It dominates the view from our house, you just have to climb up there ! Really not a difficult walk. There and back in under two hours. Can you spot the house from the top? Fascinating history and fantastic (no, really fantastic) views.

Our closest place of interest, just 3 mins walk towards town, Plas Newydd was home to the Lady’s of Llangollen. Same sex coupling before it was even invented ! Well worth a walk arround the gardens and down into the wooded vale of the same stream (our stream) that runs to the side of the Lodge.

Take a trip on a steam train and stop off at Carrog village. Have a walk along the banks of the river or even a swim. Enjoy a pie and a pint in the Grouse Inn and admire the surrounding countryside. The train station does a good cup of tea and a slice of cake before the slow ride home.. toot toot !

Industrial history

Anything to do with the former economic utilisation of the valley
A most amazing feat of engineering. Over 200 years old and still in working order. The ‘stream in the sky’ spans the Dee valley some 126ft above the river. Walk or cycle hear along the towpath for a great day out.

A short walk from home to see the working horses of the Llangollen canal. Stop in on your way up to the castle. Take a ride on a horse drawn narrow boat or walk upstream to the horseshoe falls.

The source of the Llangollen canal ! Built by Thomas Telford in the early 1800s. This is the special place where the river Dee rises to the level of the canal water. Telfords weer channels huge quantities of water into the national canal network and gave reason to the presence of the canal in Llangollen, with all its economic benefits.

An offering of rare quality. Three Eagles offers the best dining experience in Llangollen. Casual and relaxed, something special to be enjoyed at least once on your visit. Just a short walk back to the house when you’ve done. The progress and contemporary side of welsh hospitality.. ( just my view)
