This museum is fascinating, focusing on the Civil War and the history of Hampton and Norfolk, as well as what it was like living in the area prior to the Civil War. The Casemate Museum was also the location where Jefferson Davis was imprisoned following the Civil War.

If you crave some quiet shade and a walk in the woods, this state park is a sweet oasis with water wending through the woods and under bridges as you wander through the many trails. Cross Shore Drive and you can also enjoy the Chesapeake Bay beaches.

Beach
Just two blocks from my house, this beach is wonderful. It is calm, private, wide, clean, and peaceful. There is a sound of surf, but it's subdued. It's the perfect beach for families with young children as there's very little danger of them being swamped by strong waves. The sand is soft. Instead of shells, you'll find beautiful round pebbles where the water breaks. Dolphins swim up and down the Chesapeake Bay. If you want to swim with a lifeguard, there are public beaches with those amenities about four minutes by car to the left up Ocean View Avenue. Parking is free and ample.
