Orokonui Ecosanctuary is a 15 minute drive from Hill View. It is a predator-fenced area of great natural beauty and a beautiful place to take a bush walk and listen to the birdsong. They have Takahe and kaka and a lovely visitor centre and cafe.

Orokonui EcosanctuaryOrokonui Ecosanctuary is a 15 minute drive from Hill View. It is a predator-fenced area of great natural beauty and a beautiful place to take a bush walk and listen to the birdsong. They have Takahe and kaka and a lovely visitor centre and cafe.
A 15-min drive from Hill View, Port Chalmers is one of my favourite local spots, a charming place with a village vibe, historic buildings and great eateries. Check out Back Beach road for beautiful views, the lookout for a great view of the Port. Go to the the Galley cafe for coffee, the Portsider for a lovely dinner and beer or wine, and Fukomart for asian sit-down or takeaway. Combine Port Chalmers with a trip to Orokonui Ecosanctuary or a trip on the ferry over to Portobello.

The Inch Bar is our closest pub. It's cosy, characterful with a wide range of craft beers and often has live music. If you don't mind the hill on the way back, you can walk here from Hill View.
