Tourism in Ayrshire

Ayr and Ayrshire have many interesting tourist spots and I have listed a few of them here. I hope this helps make your stay even better.
Robert Burns is Scotlands National Bard (Poet). The Robert Burns Museum is located in his birthplace of Alloway Village which adjoins Ayr to the South. As well as the Museum there is also Burns Cottage, where he was born, Burns Monument with it's beautiful gardens, the Brig O' Doon which featured in one of his most famous poems, Tam O' Shanter and the Auld Kirk ruins where his parents are buried (and rumoured to be haunted). If you are ready for a refreshment the Burns Monument Hotel offers food and drink at reasonable prices.

The Auld Kirk, (Kirk of St John the Baptist), Blackfriar's Walk, Ayr has been an active Church Church of Scotland). It has been a centre of worship in the town of Ayr for over 800 years, first in a building down near the harbour (only the tower, St John's Tower, remains) and then since 1654 in its present location. The church is steeped in history. From its beginnings in the 17th century, there is so much has happened of great historical significance around the Church. Be it the Covenanters and Oliver Cromwell or Robert Burns himself, the Auld Kirk has played a huge part in Ayr's history. Ayr was established as a Royal Burgh in 1205. It served as Ayrshire's central marketplace and harbour throughout the Medieval Period[4] and was a well-known port during the Early Modern Period.[4] On the southern bank of the River Ayr sits the ramparts of a citadel constructed by Oliver Cromwell's men during the mid-17th century. Towards the south of the town is the birthplace of Scottish poet Robert Burns in the suburb of Alloway. Ayr has been a popular tourist resort since the expansion of the railway in 1840 owing to the town's fine beach and its links to golfing and Robert Burns.

Founded in 1878 by a few enthusiasts, Troon Golf Club soon outgrew its purely local reputation. The Old Course today represents a stern golfing examination and in particular the inward half of Royal Troon is widely accepted as the most demanding of any Course on the Championship rota.

South Beach is part of a long, partly urban beach stretching south from the mouth of the River Ayr with its harbour and dock, down to the more remote, scenic ruins of Greenan Castle, a 16th century tower house, which was probably once a fort. There is a pier at the north end of the beach, from which there are lovely views out over the Firth of Clyde to the mountains of the Isle of Arran. The sandy beach is backed by an esplanade, along which it is sometimes possible to find a parking spot. Alternatively there is a car park just off Cromwell Road from which there is direct access to the esplanade.
