In the evocative architectural complex of the Palazzo dei Conservatori, which was Palazzo del Comune and which saw Piero della Francesca as Town Councilor, there are important collections of paintings from the 4th to the 18th century. The works by Piero della Francesca, born and died in Sansepolcro, are of exceptional interest: the Resurrection, the polyptych of the Madonna della Misericordia, the San Giuliano and the San Lodovico. On display are also works by Raffaellin Dal Colle, Signorelli, Pontormo, Matteo di Giovanni, Santi di Tito, Cantagallina and others; a section in the basement is dedicated to archeology with numerous findings from the Bronze and Iron Ages.

The Museum houses the famous fresco by Piero della Francesca of the Madonna del Parto (1455), depicted here in "sweet expectation" according to an unusual iconography in Italian art. Furthermore, a documentation illustrating its restoration is shown. This one painting museum is definitely worth visiting.
