Most people visit Bodrum without realizing that this is the ancient city of Halicarnassus, and is (well, was) home to one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. While there is little left from the impressive mausoleum, there is enough to reconstruct the place in your imagination. Plus, you are already here, you might as well check off "one of the seven wonders of ancient word" from your bucket list.

While there is little left from the impressive mausoleum, there is enough to reconstruct the place in your imagination. Plus, you are already here, you might as well check off "one of the seven wonders of ancient word" from your bucket list.
This is the site of Ancient City of Ephesus, one of the most impressive and most visited archaeological sites in Turkey. It is a bit far away, about 3 hour drive from Bodrum, but well-worth the time and effort. There are countless number of travel agencies in central Bodrum that will sell you daily trips to Ephesus. And, while you are here...surprise, surprise... yet another one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, The Temple of Artemis" is located in the nearby town of Selcuk. But wait, that is not all either... Make sure you also visit the House of Virgin Mary (yep you read that right, read the separate entry for more details).

This is the site of Ancient City of Ephesus, one of the most impressive and most visited archaeological sites in Turkey. While it is important for Christians, people from all walks of beliefs come here to make a wish (typically health or family related) , and return with a small gift when their wish come true.

This little chappel (still functioning as such) is perhaps one of the most important Christian sites in Turkey. It is considered to be the house of Virgin Mary. While it is important for Christians, people from all walks of beliefs come here to make a wish (typically health or family related) , and return with a small gift when their wish come true.
The spectacular ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis is located in Pamukkale. The open air museum is truly impressive, and the small indoor museum is very well designed and lit. Make sure to visit this area if you come and visit Travertines of Pamukkale. Most people miss it.

Milas - Bodrum Airport (BJV) has nonstop flights to / from just about every European city during summer months, as well as frequent flights to/from Istanbul year round. The airport is about 40 minutes from central Bodrum. There are frequent shuttle services, as well as car rental agencies and taxi service.
