Filippoi, is a village and a former municipality in the Kavala regional unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Kavala, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 238.751 km². The 2011 census reported a population of 11,711 for the municipal unit and 894 for the village. The ruins of ancient Philippi are located in the municipal unit. The most important cultural event of the town is its annual festival, held since 1957. It takes place in the Ancient Theatre of Filippoi during the high season with ancient and modern performances, ballets and concerts by theatrical troupes, orchestras and bands.

Acropolis is located at the top of the first hill over the ancient agora (market) at a height of 137m. Acropolis has armoured marble walls. t comprised the ultimate defence in case o f emergency.The wall of Acropolis was constructed by the first inhabitants of the island. They even used it as treasury in order to secure and protect the wealth of the town. In several periods, it had been reconstructed, restored and amplified. Walking beside it, one easily discerns its different phases through time.It is worth following the path and ascending the verdurous hills since the scenery is magnificent. Before the walk supply yourself with water and put on comfortable shoes.

It’s the 2nd biggest river in Thrace and one of the 5 biggest in Greece. It is the natural border between Macedonia and Thrace. It springs from Bulgaria and specifically the Rila area. really,it is wonderfull place and any visitor must have a mini trip there!!For sure you will enjoy it!The activities organized for tourists in the region of Xanthi Prefecture cover a wide variety: several involve the descent of river Nestos with canoes-kayaks, but there is also horse-riding, archery, horse-drawn carriages, hiking, mountain biking and 4x4 driving. Visitors can either opt to join one or a combination of the above-mentioned activities.

A gorgeous fine sandy beach (50-60 m large) surrounds Keramoti, and goes on for 9 km towards the Mesta River. The cave of Voskovrysi is an integral part of the Mesoropi path. It is also known under the name Voskotrypa or Tsobansoui. Its entrance is small making the access more difficult. However, the anteroom is bigger, thus the visitor can continue further inside the cave. The stalactites and the beautifully shaped rocks decorate its interior. What is more, visitors of the cave will have to walk in the water that is only 7oC and reaches the level of the knees! After 50 meters, the cave becomes wider and in order to continue visitors have to cross a deep lake. At a certain point the depth is so big that special equipment is necessary in order to go further.

If you want to visit Thassos island, you can take the bus to leave in Keramoti village (it's abou t 30' with the bus) or your car(about 15-20'),and then you will take the ferry boat to go to Thassos!the route it's almost 35-45' and the ticket per person is 3,5 E.if you want to pass your car with ferry,to make more easy your trip in Thassos the cost is 16 E.
