Food Scene

Portrush has numerous restaurants - Ocho Tapas is my favourite because: of the quality of the food and and the menu is significantly different to everything else on offer in town, Booking is usually necessary. Be sure and check your bill before paying.

If you like croissants go early morning. The wheaten bread is delicious and the sausage rolls are their best seller. If you fancy breakfast with a stunning view - Tom Toms serve great carry-out coffee and there are benches around the corner from the shop that over look the Atlantic, East Strand beach and the Skerries.

A trip to Portrush is not complete without visit to the Arcadia. Originally built as a café in the 1920s, it subsequently became a thriving ballroom through the 1950s and 60s. Recently renovated the building is now a coffee shop/restaurant downstairs and an Art gallery/Yoga/ Pilates centre upstairs. Pilates or Yoga with a view of the Atlantic thrown in for free - heavenly!

Parks & Nature

The cliff walk from Dunseverick castle to the Giant's Causeway is spectacular and the best way to arrive at the Giants Causeway. Strong footwear recommemded. The path is not particularly difficult but is steep in places. Seats and benches are strategically positionned to make most of the view. Worth taking a flask of coffee to savour the moment, During the summer months the the Causeway Rambler bus runs between the two places.

The Port Path (integral section of Causeway Coast Way and Ulster Way) follows a stretch of scenic coastline between Portstewart and Portrush. This beautiful walk starts at West Strand - on leaving the house -at the main road - follow the cycle path route to West Strand and keep left up the hill from the beach. There is a cycle path most of the way into Portstewart - when it ends most people continue to cycle on the (wide) footpath. If walking you can take the lower path whcih hugs the coastline. http://www.walkni.com/walks/152/port-path/ http://www.causewaycoastway.com/trail-description/portrush-portstewart.php

Sightseeing

Fans of Game of Thrones will be familiar with the iconic image of Ballintoy harbour but for those of us who have escaped the GoT bug - Ballintoy has much to offer in terms of secluded location, spectacular views and great food. Breakfast, lunch or coffee and cake from Roark's Kitchen is well worth the detour of the then main road. Breakfast is served from 11am.
