One of our favourite museums by the Catalan artist. It’s in Montjuic, so you can have a nice walk around the Grec amphitheater and its gardens, get lost in Laribal gardens and enjoy Barcelona’s most precious hill.

Barrios

Nice streets and squares. Fairly touristy area for a reason, the streets have a medieval feel and the restaurants are plenty and hip. To see: beautiful old market, ciudadela park for a crowded but fun picnic, the very most insta.gramable MOCO museum (the temporary exhibition by hiperrealist genius Guillermo Lorca is the best part), get lost around the narrow streets.

Our very own barrio, mixture of cultures and flavours from all over. You can find classy hotels beside an old school bar dedicated to FCB, or the trendiest wine bar in front of a family-owned filipino restaurant. To see: exhibitions at CCCB art gallery, cocktail bars at Joaquim Costa and the best pizzas and kebabs in town.

Wherever you look at, there’s a nice modernist façade looking back at you. To see: Enjoy walking up and down one of the most beautiful streets of the city, Comte Borrell, and have an aperitif which locals call “tomar un vermut” due to the well known drink.

Amazing ceviche & oysters with a twist: on Sundays they make the Pisco Disco event, where a DJ lightens the mood with a great selection of funky and soul and the best pisco sour does its bit. Price: Under 30€ per person. Barrio: Poble Sec.

Very easygoing veggie restaurant, creative and flavoursome usage of fresh produce. We have tried the 9-course tasting menu and I’d say it’s not worth it, better to select your own choice from the regular menu and enjoy. Price: Under 30€ per person. Barrio: Raval.

Hands down the best paella in town. Don’t be fooled by the bars beside the beach, this restaurant doesn’t have a terrace but the deliciousness of the rice pays off. Our favourite is the classic “paella” of dry rice and shrimp. Have a traditional “bomba” (pan-crusted mash potato ball stuffed with hot mince meat) and romesco mussels while you wait. Won’t be disappointed. Price: Around 35€ per person. Barrio: Barceloneta.

Bars

If you’re into skateboarding you might have heard of it, located close to the legendary MACBA and Universitat square. This is a bar that has its own half-pipe, not much left to be said. Grunge, trashy and wonderful Nevermind is a Barcelona institution for young souls. Barrio: Raval.

This is a true local pearl that must not be spoiled. It is seedy indeed and you wouldn’t enter if it were not for this recommendation, but they have the best and cheapest real Spanish tapas in Sant Antoni; must try the garlic-marinate piglet “pincho de cochinillo”, the battered fish “cazón en adobo”, Spanish jamón platter, croquettes, and patatas bravas. Not ideal if you’re on a diet. Price: Under 25€ per person. Barrio: Sant Antoni.

Kultur og skikker

Don’t ask Catalan people if they are Spanish.

Due to our past and recent history, in Catalunya (the region in Spain where Barcelona is placed) there has been a strong pulse for independence so it can be a bit of a tense question or just an excessive long explanation that you might not be ready to hear :)
Måter å spare på

Save yourself a terrible paella.

Don’t go to supposed Spanish places with pictures on the menu. Also: Spanish people don’t eat paella for dinner.
