Particularly spectacular late September when the Cherry Blossoms are out and in autumn. This is a fabulous and relatively unknown park.

In our neighborhood

You won't want to miss this little walk. Take a left out of the street onto Old Taupo Road and walk under the bridge ( about 50m) and head up the stream. There is a great little path and it winds through some very big Redwoods. It goes all the way to Malfroy Road but you can just do 20 minutes and return the same path. Look for trout in the stream.

City/town information

Rotorua has a long history of welcoming international and local tourists going back to the days of the Pink and White Terraces. Maori guides and cultural shows were in existence before the 1886 Tarawera eruption. This city has evolved with natural beauty abounding and cultural and scenic opportunities at every turn.

Sightseeing

Kids of all ages love the Luge and the addition of several more tracks and night rides make it fun for all the family if not the faint hearted.

A charming little Maori village with hot steam rising all around and a sobering walk around the RSA Cemetery gives insight into the number of local boys lost in wars. One of the rare places where the graves are all above ground. The church isn't alway open but if it is, the stained glass of Jesus walking across the water of Lake Rotorua is memorable.

While the main buildings are under renovation you can still get a glimpse of Rotorua's past and there are lovely gardens and some quaint cottages as well as the Deco Blue Baths.

Steam and blubbing mud and a scensory garden plus a thriving Saturday Morning Market and in autumn the trees are stunning. You can put your feet in the hot footbaths and feel refreshed from the soda water.

Food scene

This is in the centre of town and runs along Tutanekai Street - dozens of varied food stalls along with music, gifts, and a great vibe. Cancelled if weather is bad so keep an eye on the link. Parking is limited as the streets are closed off so get there a bit early and park in side streets.

Rotorua is 900' above sea level

Its advisable to pack for cooler climate even in summer. The evenings are cool and the forests can be damp.

Rotorua has many cultural experiences

If visiting any marae ( meeting house) be aware you will need to slip off your shoes so no laces are a good idea. Respectful clothing should be worn on any sacred ground or local marae.

Kia Ora

A simple Kia Ora is a great way to say HI when passing maori people on a path or when arriving at a marae etc. Tena Koe is a better greeting when being introduced to someone.
