Famous diner that’s been up Emigration Canyon since Ruth moved her trailer out of the city. She was a badass, cigarette smoking entrepreneur in the 1940s when women did none of the above. Get a burger or a Benny. Make your mouth happy.

Skiing and boarding🎿

My husband and I are huge skiers. We’ve skied all of these mountains many times and love them all for different reasons! Please note that Deer Valley and Alta are skiers ONLY. Snowboarders are welcome at the other 6 mountains.
Alta is for the powder hounds. No snowboarders allowed. The food is basic but tasty, the beers on tap are fresh, and you’ll ski deep powder until your legs are jelly. Not recommended for beginners. Feels like you’re backcountry in most areas, except you’re in bounds! You must reserve parking in advance for a fee.

Snowbird has a wide variety of terrain, but tends towards blues and blacks. The buildings look like Soviet bunkers but it adds to its charm. Second only to Alta in total inches of annual snow, and you can ski between the two.

DV is skiers only and is the luxury option of mountains in Utah. You want a martini and shrimp cocktail for lunch? DV can hook you up. Varied terrain for all levels but also the most expensive if you buy your pass at the window. Tends to have great groomed green and blue runs if that’s what you like but if you want a fun challenge, try the Davy Chutes. Also this mountain is skiers only.

Brighton is the most family friendly mountain. On any given day, 75% of the folks on the mountain are kids - that’s because kid passes are super cheap so all the locals go here with young kids. Has great terrain for all levels including some double black stuff you have to hunt to find but you’ll probably get freshies if you do.

The undiscovered gem of Utah skiing, our only complaint is the lack of parking. It’s all paid (tho there is a discount for carpooling) but when it’s full, you have to park on the road and walk…sometimes a mile or more to the mountain. (Walk in your shoes and rent a locker!) That said, has the best glade, double black and boot pack terrain. Honeycomb canyon is a must.

PowMow is like your fiercely independent hippy friend. It will never join any of the major passes (like IKON or EPIC), has basic food options and small lodges but the largest skiable area in the US. The day passes are pretty affordable and they limit how many are sold so there are never lift lines. Lots of fun glade and off piste terrain but also not particularly difficult as a mountain - you won’t find chutes, cliffs and stuff like that here.
