Sightseeing

“The road across the sea” is the iconic experience with bridges that arch between the islets and reefs along the rough Hustadvika Bay. Atlanterhavsvegen - the Atlantic Road - is a visual delight as it curves elegantly from islet to islet over its seven bridges. Nature and modern engineering meet and create this highly unique driving experience. The trip takes you from the fertile cultural landscape of the coast across moorland to bare crags along the weather-beaten, open bay of Hustadvika. Take time to watch the sun disappearing below the horizon from here. Atlanterhavsvegen has been described as the world’s most beautiful drive.

Troll church, is no ordinary church as many may think, but an exciting marble and limestone cave in the mountains with underground rivers and waterfalls. The caves are in the mountains north of the main road between Moen in Fræna and Eide. Park by the RV64 and follow the marked path towards Trollkirka. It takes about an hour and a half to get to the caves. There is a sign where you enter the caves. The main cave is about 70 m long and leads into a waterfall that falls into a white marble bowl. Bring good flashlights/headlamps to each person to have a good view when you are inside the caves. If you continue past the entrances to the caves, you come to the idyllic Trollvatnet lake where you can take a refreshing swim! We recommend hiking boots / waterproof shoes for this trip because of the water inside the caves, in addition to the start of the trail that sometimes can be wet.

City/town information

Bud is an active and charming fishing village that is beautifully situated out to sea and offers magnificent coastal nature. The fishing village has a rich history, and in the 16th century Bud was one of the largest trading venues between Bergen and Trondheim. There are several good fish restaurants in Bud. Make a stop at Ergan Kystfort, a war history museum built around the German coastal fort of World War II, and the Coastal Museum, which is a two-story cultural history exhibition. In the middle of Bud lies a bird mountain which during the breeding season houses a colony of black-legged kittiwakes. You can also walk the "coastal path" with a number of information boards telling of Bud's history.
