This park is a fantastic way to spend some time off the lake. If you bring your bikes to the lake you can enjoy the mixed trail system ( single track, dirt road, and paved road). Great playground for 5-12 year olds as well.

Distillery Tour and Tasting
This place is a great local spot with lots to do along the River. They are whipping up some solid basic bourbon and some crazy wild out there flavored gins and vodkas.
This local spot is making all kinds of good stuff. Great atmosphere and the tasting session was really fun.

Lake Gaston is rural. Do research if its you’re first trip
Seasoned Gaston goers Costco or Sam’s shop for this vacation. There is a Walmart in Roanoke Rapids (25 min) drive from the lake house but still better to bring what you absolutely have to have...Like great steaks! Also you’ll need more sunscreen than you think because the water reflection is no joke and you’ll want to apply several times throughout the day so you can enjoy the evening and not be stuck aloe bathing. My wife and I pack 2 pairs of shoes for the kids so you can have boat shoes and a dry pair for hiking and playing off the lake. 2 bathing suits is great because one never gets dry

Boat gas
Buying your boat gas off the lake will save you hundreds over the course of a week stay. Also keep in mind most of the marinas close at 5pm so don’t expect to get gas if your low and on the lake in the evening!
