Sightseeing

The most relaxing way to end your day or begin it! The lost springs is unlike any thermal pools that I have been too, it’s complete luxury. Highly recommend!

Located on the edge of the great Mercury Bay, close to the village of Hahei, famous Cathedral Cove is one of the “must visit” places in The Coromandel. There are several scenic tracks on land adjacent to the reserve, including the 1.5hr return walk, which give walking access to Gemstone Bay, Mare's Leg and Cathedral Cove. But the very best way to experience the magic of this place and to discover the secrets of the volcanic coastline from which it is formed, is to appraoch on the water, by boat or by kayak.

Voted as one of the 101 Must Do's for Kiwis. Hidden away from the masses and rarely explored by Kiwi’s is the spectacular ‘New Chum Beach’, which ironically has been voted as one of the world's top 10 beaches! New Chum was also voted 60th of the 101 Must Do's for Kiwis. This stunning stretch of golden sand is fringed by Pohutukawa and native forest and is deserted for most of the year. New Chum beach embodies 'The Coromandel good for your soul.' This protected beach has no buildings, no roads, no infrastructure or camping - it is a jewel in New Zealand's coastal crown.

Wharekaho (Simpsons Beach) is a place of history and living legacies set alongside a beautiful beach and the shade of inviting ancient Pohutukawa. On a warm fine day a swim at Simpsons Beach is just a delight. On a not so warm day a full walk along the beach to collect beach offerings and enjoy the banter as you avoid the incoming waves is just as delightful. A small playground off Winiata Place adjacent to the beach is an alternative to sand and sea.

Otama is a beautiful secluded beach over the scenic Black Jack Hill – past Luke’s Kitchen – with Pohutukawa trees growing in the sand. The beach offers safe swimming and a lagoon. Wonderful for photography
