This is at the bottom of the gorge. Late afternoon or early evening gather a bit of food and drink and a folding chair and park in the small lot just before you drive across the bridge. Take your goodies & chair and set up on the walkway to enjoy the view of the rapids & boats running the river!!

About 20 min. N. on Rt 19- cross the Dam that separates the Lake from the Upper Gauley River. Park at the 'winter boat ramp' for walk in access to the water. You can drive down to the bottom of the Dam and see the river put-in and the water thundering out of the "Tubes" if you are lucky. Great fishing here. Stop at Fat Eddies for a treat when done!

Awesome park! great biking on trails or the roads- views from picnic and play areas. Small fishing lake w pedal boats and canoes for rent. Built in the CCC years- it has a world famous Grist Mill along a creek that meanders through the entire park.

Seeing the area like a local on the North side of the Bridge

The Park visitor center is always a great place to start a trip as you get an overview of the entire park. Another nice trip is into the town of Ansted to either walk or bike down and up the Mill Creek rails to trails (1-2% grade)-It’s approximately 1.8 miles each way. When you get to the bottom you will be at the lake below Hawks nest state park where the New River jet boat launch is located. Driving into the town of Winona- to see the old Nuttalburg coal tipple etc. is worth the drive as the drive itself can be exciting and runs along Keeney's Creek- with places to get in the creek.
