Neighborhoods

This historic neighborhood is within easy walking and biking distance from downtown and quick access to I-90 from Orange Street. Missoula’s Westside is a mellow, eclectic family neighborhood spanning both sides of the Clark Fork River along Russell St. Many of the streets north of the Clark Fork River are named for famous English language authors such as Shakespeare, Poe and Byron. The neighborhood was developed early around the mills and the railroad industries. The railroad is going strong but many of the mills and warehouses have been turned into artist studios and housing. My favorite thing about this neighborhood is the predominance of urban farming. Many lawns have been replaced with garden plots and there seems to be at least one chicken coop on every block. It’s hard to believe that one can walk a few block south and you are in the middle of Missoula’s commercial area on Broadway and Russell!
