The MT runs 55km one-way from Consecon (west PEC) to Picton (east PEC). You'll find 1 km markers along the trail from W to E.
It's pretty much dead-flat so a leisurely ride on a bicycle for novices. (No hills or climbing up Mt. Ventoux like in the Pyrenees, France :))
