Jensen Beach
Jensen Beach, tucked into Florida's East Coast between Fort Pierce and West Palm Beach, once was known as the "Pineapple Capital of the World" and still holds an annual pineapple festival.
Appropriately, the pineapple is a symbol of hospitality, and Jensen Beach lives up to this hallmark every day.
With its major shopping centers, numerous specialty stores and unusual boutiques, the Jensen Beach area is renowned as a retail shopping center of the Treasure Coast.
Jensen Beach also has earned a reputation for its seafood-intensive fine dining.
The water enthusiast will find boating, sailing, fishing, skiing, surfing and scuba diving. Jensen Beach also attracts several species of endangered sea turtles during nesting seasons.

Located on Florida’s Treasure Coast north of Palm Beach and south of Vero Beach, Stuart draws boaters because of the terrific inshore fishing and easy access to offshore fishing. It’s a must-see for boaters and anglers, and even though it’s known as the Sailfish Capital of the World, you can enjoy ocean, river, bay and freshwater fishing.
Just south of Stuart is Manatee Pocket. With a wide variety of restaurants and marinas in the historic fishing village of Port Salerno, it’s the perfect waypoint on your way out of the Intracoastal Waterway to do some offshore fishing. You can troll for dolphin (mahimahi, not Flipper), blackfin tuna or wahoo. Bottom fishermen can load up on grouper, triggerfish, snapper and amberjack. Head out on your own or pair up with one of the many charter companies in Stuart. For the really adventurous, Stuart is a popular point from which to embark for the Bahamas.
If you prefer just to admire the aquatic life, book a tour aboard the Sunshine Lady and enjoy up-close views of bottlenose dolphins, manatees, sea turtles and all kinds of birds. The 40-foot tour boat sets sail on the Indian River Lagoon, home to more than 4,000 species of plants, birds and fish; visit sunshinewildlifetours.com for more info. With a world-class oceanographic center and midnight sea-turtle egg-laying expeditions, there are plenty of chances to get up close and personal with the wildlife surrounding Stuart.
Stuart holds a special spot in boaters’ hearts for another reason. The Ralph Evinrude Test Center is located there, and much of the history of outboard propulsion was centered in this top-secret facility.
That storied history began in 1905 when Ole Evinrude was on a picnic at Okauchee Lake in Wisconsin when his beloved Bessie had a craving for some ice cream. Rowing back to shore to retrieve it, Evinrude was inspired by the melting ice cream to design an engine that would replace oars. (Just in case you’re wondering, even though Bessie’s sweet treat melted, their love didn’t, and they were married the next year.) Fast-forward a century and Evinrude Outboard Motors is one of the top contenders in the highly competitive outboard propulsion market.
If it’s family fun you’re looking for, at the south end of Hutchinson Island everyone can enjoy Bathtub Reef Park. The reef has become a favorite of snorkelers thanks to the honeycomb of reef rocks that have been created by Sabellariid worms cementing together sand and bits of shell. The best time to snorkel is at high tide, and the rocks block the surf, so it’s safe for kids to get out and enjoy some underwater discovery.
Stuart has something for everyone — great fishing, miles of peaceful coastline, wildlife, charming streets with galleries, cafes and shops. Offshore or on dry land, there are plenty of memorable gems to be found on this stretch of the Treasure Coast.

Sebastian is home to Pelican Island, America’s first National Wildlife Refuge, and is also known for its unspoiled beauty, diverse fishing – from world-class bass fishing to deep-sea fishing adventures. You’ll find pristine waterways perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding, scenic pontoon & airboat tours, world-renowned surfing and skydiving, and abundant birding and wildlife viewing. Sebastian is also known for the rare antiquities that have washed up on its shores. It’s hard to beat.
Rich coffee, sweet waves and sunlight skipping across the water make a marvelous way to start the day. The Melbourne Beach, Florida area has old-time Florida flair, with low-slung buildings, miles of nearly empty shoreline and an abundance of smiles and Sunshine State hospitality.
I was enjoying all of them immensely.
Melbourne Beach, Florida and its neighbor, Indialantic Beach, are laid back, family-friendly, and just a splash south of much-busier Cocoa Beach. If you need to lower the stress-meter, this section of seashore in Melbourne has your name on it.

Looking for a little adventure on your next trip to the Treasure Coast? For a real-deal look at this unique section of the Sunshine State, head to Fort Pierce where you can enjoy trips of all types – kayak, diving, heritage – you name it.
I'm a big fan of where people can get a real Florida experience, and that's exactly what you'll get in the Fort Pierce area.. You'd be hard pressed to choose just one type of trip, because they all kind of go hand in hand to paint a picture of what the area is all about. Think about it: one day you can see the Treasure Coast on a kayak trip, and the following day you can tour a historic citrus packinghouse or take go diving.
How about an eco-safari? Yep, that's another cool trip that you'll want to take. Head to Florida Ranch Adventures for all sorts of cool stuff like tours of a working cattle ranch, an eco safari and guided horseback rides. Not a bad way to spend a few days, if you ask me.
Water lovers, there are several old Spanish shipwrecks and reefs to dive. At Fort Pierce Inlet State Park, there's a great reef that's perfect for both diving and snorkeling. If surfing is your thing, bring your board. Fort Pierce Inlet State Park is one of the best places in the state to catch a wave.
The Fort Pierce Marina, where the Tiki Bar is found, is also home to the Manatee Observation and Education Center. Here you can learn about one of Florida's favorite animals, and hop aboard "the gator" for a guided wildlife tour of the lagoon. Don't forget your camera! Chances are you will catch a glimpse of dolphins, manatees, and a variety of native birds.
Learn even more about our local eco-systems at the Harbor Branch Ocean Discovery Center and the St. Lucie County Marine Center. At the latter, you can make friends with creatures in a touch tank and explore marine habitats such as a coral reef or a mangrove estuary in the Smithsonian Marine Eco-System exhibit.
