Portland Japanese Garden
611 SW Kingston AveIf there is one thing you must see, while in Oregon, its Multnomah Falls. On a good day, the hike is worth it also. This is a half day to one day trip depending on how much you add on. Pack some food or eat in the restaurant at the base of the falls. Don't forget to get off I-84 on the scenic trail. Go up the mountain to Vista Point to get a panoramic view of the Columbia Gorge and drive down to the base of Multnomah Falls. Many picnic and biking spots along the way. Feel free to use our bikes. If tax free Oregon shopping is of interest, you can stop in at the Troutdale factory outlets on the way back.
Multnomah Falls is free to enter and access so are most stops along the way.

Taco Bell
2079 W Burnside StIf you are not from Oregon or SW Washington, the name McMenamins probably doesn't mean much to you. They are a restaurant, microbrewery and a cool place all rolled into one. They specialize in restoring historic buildings and converting them to restaurants. This is a great place to get introduced to their beers and wines. Surprisingly, it is a great place for families and kids. Excellent food (not super expensive), outdoor seating (for the summer), outdoor covered heating with fireplace pits for winter and all year around in the historic building. If you can't decide on dinner, then this is the place for you. Average dish is around $10-$15. Great burgers and salads.

Powells is an iconic store in Portland. Its the largest private bookstore in the world and probably the largest bookstore in the US. If you are a bookworm, then spend a day at Powells. I recommend catching the Max and connect on to the Portland Street Car to reach Powells as parking is typical of any downtown city. Powell's has a cafe inside and you can read all you want without anyone bothering you. Support this local wonder by shopping there, or enjoying a coffee or pastry at their cafe!
