Our slice of heaven is located in total privacy of 1200ft of shore line, nestled into 156ac of stunning Haliburton woodland. It is the perfect year round escape for couples, family and friends. Enjoy swimming, fishing, water-sports, biking, hiking, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice fishing and more! Private dock, sauna, fire pit, charcoal & gas BBQs, game room, tree house, basket ball court, WIFI and Satellite TV. Golf near by.
The privacy of 1200 ft of shoreline and 156ac surrounding managed forest makes our cottage property truly unique. We maintain 8 km of private trails throughout and have guided hikes every fall for many years as part of The Hike Haliburton Festival. The Hike Haliburton Festival is Canada's largest of its kind with about 3,000 people taking part in over 100 guided hikes and activities across the spectacular Haliburton Highlands. You too are welcome to enjoy our hiking, biking or snowshoeing trails, and at your own risk. NO motorised vehicles please. It's pure nature, there's amazing views to enjoy along the way and if you're lucky, you might come across some wildlife!
The cottage is a back split design, with only a few steps down to the basement and up to the bedroom part from the main living area. The living room and two of the bedrooms feature ceiling fans. We got baseboard heating but even in cold winters the airtight wood stove comfortably heats the entire cottage. Some firewood is provided. If you require more, it can be bought by the bag at several locations nearby. Both bathrooms come with heated flooring.
The beds on the main floor have down duvets, and the one in the basement got synthetic filling. We're asking you to BRING YOUR OWN bed sheets (one fitted, one flat per bed), bath and hand towels, bathroom mats, and outdoor towels. There will be kitchen linen and cleaning supplies, as well as toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, soaps and laundry detergent. We are on a septic system that requires and operates flawlessly using ONLY biodegradable, septic friendly products. More about the septic system rules you'll find in my Welcome Book. Both bathrooms are equipped with magnifying mirrors and hair dryers.
Our water comes sediment and UV filtered from the lake. Bitter Lake being the region's highest lake and spring fed has excellent water quality. The drinking water runs through an additional Reverse Osmosis 5 filter system. We haven't had any issues with our water quality. If you prefer bottled water though, please bring in sufficient quantities.
We are on the grid and have solar power as back up for power outages. No action required, it kicks in automatically the second when hydro is interrupted.
Our lot is fairly levelled, there is stone steps and stairs with handrails leading down to the dock and waterfront. Around the property are stepping stones and boardwalks.
Our pedal-boat awaits you for your enjoyment. We also provide a double, a single kayak and a SUP.. Feel free to bring your own water toys. The lake allows motorized watercraft and the boat launch is off Bitter Lake Road. You can moore your boat at our dock.
Our Basketball court is right next to the cottage. It can get slippery when wet. The pool and football tables in the game room, the dart board and dome hockey are perfect rainy day activities. Have fun with our various board and card games.
Our cottage is about 10-minutes drive to West Guilford with its general store for all of your everyday needs. It is the one stop for all: LCBO, excellent butcher, post office and a decent supply of food or daily necessities. A 20-minutes drive away are the towns of Haliburton and Minden. There you will find medical services, all kinds of shopping options, farmers markets, gas stations, galleries, events, and a variety of restaurants.
There are several golf courses in the area, Haliburton Forest with their Walk-in-the-Clouds, dog-sled-activities, Wolf-Centre and more is about 5km away. Sir Sam's Ski Resort for all downhill skiers, snowboarders and snowshoeing in the winter or mountain bikers in the summer can be reached in about 25 minutes by car.
The West Guilford Community Centre offers free use of a baseball diamond in the summer and an outdoor rink in the winter, and you will find tennis courts in Stanhope for reasonable booking fees, as well as our small local airport.
For a rainy day Kinmount is about a 30-minute drive with its legendary movie theatre. A road trip destination!
