In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole and that means comfort.
Thank you so much to everyone that has stayed and left such lovely reviews. Yes it's a small space but everyone seems to have enjoyed staying. We've certainly enjoyed it ourselves a couple of times (well we had to test it didn't we!) Nowhere else can you stay with a view like this from your comfortable bed! We are only 15 minutes from Hay on Wye and the perfect place to stay during the Hay festival. The Hobbit House has a wood-fired cooker so that you can cook your own meals and there is running water just outside. A large sofabed folds out to a full-sized double bed with a deep comfortable mattress. All bedding etc provided. Dinner and breakfast can be provided at extra cost - how about a nice hearty stew in a slow-cooker ready for you to arrive, with fresh bread warming in the Hobbit House's wood-fired oven? We have a number of great walks starting from the doorstep and a rural pub over the road. (please note that the pub is generally only open at weekends) PLEASE NOTE: 95% of people have loved staying here, but it isn't to everyone's tastes. it IS small. it does have a sofa bed rather than a proper bed. The bathroom is down in our house and although it is for your exclusive use, it is a 30 second walk away. This is glamping, not luxury. But if that suits you then you'll have an amazing time.
A Hobbit House in the middle of the beautiful Brecon Beacons. I think that's pretty unique don't you?!

    Timothy2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastisk innkvartering vil definitivt komme tilbake. Tømmerbrenneren inne holdt oss usedvanlig varme i minusgrader. Vil definitivt besøke igjen

We moved to the Brecon Beacons to enjoy the good life. We have a little bit of land and a few animals. We're planting as many trees as we can for heating - over 2,000 so far! we also have a hobbit house! This room has an en-suite shower room and includes exclusive use of a large outdoor wood-fired hot tub!
On the side of a Welsh mountain in the Brecon Beacons but easy to find and with good road access to the local area. We have a number of great walks starting from the doorstep and a rural pub over the road. (please note that the pub is generally only open at weekends) This is a ground floor room with en-suite shower room. The room has a double bed and also a pull out camp bed for a third person as needed. There are a couple of steps though so please contact us if you have special requirements. We also have our very own our "hobbit house" which is also available to rent!
Where better to stay than the beautiful Brecon Beacons?

Guest reviews:- "Beautiful house in an even more beautiful location." "Ty'r Olchon could not have been better. Beautiful location for peace and quiet, and lovely walks along the river, through the valleys, fields, and forests. The house was perfect - cosy, warm, stylish and the home cinema was an extra treat for down time." "This place is a hidden gem, wow what a find. I took my family of 10 adults here for my partners surprise 40th Birthday and we had the most amazing time. Both the house and the cottage are spacious, clean and well finished. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need and the table sat 10 adults very comfortably." "Stunning location, beautiful house with excellent BBQ area for summer, and huge log burner for winter! : guest review December 2017 "Beautiful very well equipped home We had an amazing time. Mesmerising views . Entertainment lounge with log burner cinema system and games . Superb kitchen with an Aga . Pleasure for those who enjoy cooking." : guest review October 2017 "Had the most fabulous week here in October. Incredibly cosy getaway. All creature comforts are present in the house. Awesome views across the valley! Hygge time!" "House and location are quite simply stunning. Can't fault this place. The local walks are magnificent" " "Amazing house and location for a family weekend away. The house was comfortable and warm and had everything we needed to cook with. The log burner kept us really toasty in the evenings whilst watching films on the home cinema set up. We walked from the house on the public footpath with dog and 4 week old baby in a sling across the fields into Longtown, stopped at the pub for a drink, and the shop for supplies and walked back via the road. We also headed over to the other side of the valley to explore the landscape, less than 10 minute drive and then on foot again up the mountain. Very relaxed. The views are amazing." "A beautiful house tucked away in a peaceful and scenic situation. No noise or light pollution made this a very relaxing location. The wood burner was very welcome on a cold January weekend, as was the Aga, meaning the house was always very pleasantly warm and cosy."
This is a relatively undiscovered part of the UK with beautiful countryside, but with easy access to excellent restaurants and pubs, and culture and retail therapy in the book town of Hay-on-Wye and Abergavenny. Longtown village with its well-provisioned shop, post office and pub is five minutes drive away. Within 25 minutes drive are the Walnut Tree & Hardwick restaurants offering high quality cuisine in relaxed settings - book in advance! The magical Llanthony Abbey is in the next valley. The historic Marches towns of Ludlow, Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury and Hereford are within easy travelling distance. SOME OF THE LOCAL SITES OF INTEREST: Llanveynoe Church - 15 minute walk along the lane or through the fields and along the public footpath. Longtown Castle - in the middle of the village. Llanthony Priory & Cwmyoy Church - both in the next valley to the west of the cottage - a must when you are so near. St. Margaret's Church, 15 minute drive - very beautiful medieval church with a wonderful carved Rood Screen. Abbey Dore Church and Monastery - 20 minute drive. Red Daren/Offa's Dyke - directly opposite the house :- Drive for 10 minutes along the Mountain Road (the one you were told not to take just before you first arrived), over the river and up and over the cattle grid into the National Park - until you reach the parking place directly opposite the house. Within a few hundred yards before, and only a few yards after the parking place, there are two public footpaths leading up the mountain. The first is easier and will take you towards Llanthony Priory, the second is steeper and will take you in the direction of Hay Bluff. Cat's Back/Black Hill : quickest way to the top of the ridge and great views - 10 minute drive to the car park at the bottom of the Hill. Abergavenny - nearest market town (with a Waitrose, Aldi, Morrison, and Tesco), 25 minute drive on the route to Cardiff (which is only an hour away, traffic permitting, if you would like to spend some time in a surprisingly great little city). Hay on Wye - the book town - retail therapy, good food and pubs. The drive, from Ty'r Olchon to Hay-on Wye, taking the shortest route on the narrow road which climbs up to the highest point, gives stunning views and takes about 25 minutes. FOOD AND PROVISIONS Longtown Village:- Shop & Post Office; The Crown Inn Ewyas Harold Village, 15 minutes drive away has a well stocked village shop and post office, fish and chip shop, butcher selling very local fresh meat and good frozen fish, pub - The Dog; pub with restaurant - The Temple Bar. Fine restaurants within 25 minute drive The Walnut Tree, 20 minutes drive just off the road to Abergavenny The Hardwick, Raglan, 20 minutes drive MEDICAL & DENTAL GP at Ewyas Harold Dentists at Abergavenny Chemists at Abergavenny Accident & Emergency at Abergavenny (Nevill Hall Hospital) or Hereford

Separate bedroom, well equipped kitchen, wood burner, shower room, private garden with outdoor hot tub, hammock and fire pit. The Shepherds Carriage is a unique structure which we built from from scratch over the course of a year. Our initial intention was to replicate the ever popular Shepherds hut, but as it grew in stature, both in height and in length, it took on its own unique look and many of our friends and family have likened it to a railway carriage or cabouse, hence its name! If you are keen to escape the hussle and bussle of daily life, and visit a very beautiful and relaxing part of the country you should consider The Shepherds Carriage @ Plaswye. Located in the picturesque village of Llyswen in the heart of the Wye Valley, the cabin is situated in the grounds of our own home and enjoys a private secluded spot next to a babbling brook with far reaching views of the Black Mountains and Wye Valley. The cabin offers a level of luxury not normally found in a glamping setting, while still retaining that all important back to basics feeling! It has its own large garden, an outdoor luxury hot tub, from where you can take in the mountain views and stars at night, a fire pit, hammock and bbq. Residents are also welcome to roam around our fields and orchard, which amount to 6 acres where our friendly goat billy lives with a small flock of black mountain sheep. Inside, the cabin couldn’t be cosier, heated by a wood burner, it has its own open plan living area with smart TV and wifi, a corner sofa that converts into a full size double bed, a well equipped kitchen with gas stove and cooker, a fridge freezer, a table which seats up to four and a bathroom with power shower and flushing toilet! Accessed via a trap door in the ceiling there is also a separate bedroom with a comfy double bed and luxurious bedding. You could experience the best nights sleep ever, we did! Be it summer or winter you are sure to come away feeling rested and revived! Guests have the opportunity to do as much or as little as they like. They can merely stay put and chill, or venture out and enjoy a host of pursuits from walking, kayaking, mountain biking, sailing and flying to a lazy day wondering around the nearby book town of Hay on Wye or market town of Brecon, nestled at the foot of Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in southern Britain and part of the famous Brecon beacons national park. There are also some great walks direct from your doorstep, such as the Wye Valley walk and the climb, immediately behind the cabin up onto Brechfa common from where you get an amazing 360 degree view of the entire area. For keen fishermen we can also offer you access to our own private stretch of fishing on the river wye, a famous salmon fishing river and only a short walk away. If you are looking for a romantic retreat, a family holiday or a place to simply chill and destress, we are sure you won’t be disappointed! Please note: if you are looking for friends and family to join you, we also have a two double bedroom cottage available for hire, The Apple House @ Plaswye, which is also featured on this website.

Our rustic shepherd's hut is located on our small family farm just outside of Talybont on Usk in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Wander down to the local pub, head out over the mountains and gaze at the stars (telescope available!). Discover Cymru - chosen as one of the best AirBnBs in Wales! The hut gets it's name from the Welsh for orchard - Y Berllan, as it sits beside our orchard. We also have two other little huts called 'Tor y Foel' and 'Pen y Fan'
Get off-grid in luxury in our shepherds hut. You'll be warm as the hut is fully insulated and contains a wood-burning stove (first basket of logs included, please bring extra with you or purchase from village shop or local garages). The lights and sockets are powered by a solar panel which should be fine for charging phones etc. Cook either on the top of the stove, BBQ grill or gas camping hobs. The double bed has plenty of pillows and a sheet but you'll want to bring your own sleeping bag/s or duvet. There is no water supply to the hut itself but you'll be able to fill a jerrycan (from the wash hut) and top up the canteen. Heat water on the wood burner or gas. The wash hut is located 100m away on the yard. There you'll find the WC and shower.
Quiet countryside with excellent local pubs and restaurants.

Minutes from Hay on Wye, in spectacular open countryside Grove Villa nestles under Black Hill. Gaze out from the huge studio. Watch Netflix by the wood burner in the ancient parlour, play table tennis and darts in the games room, football and croquet on the vast lawns, and paddle in the stream. 5 bedrooms sleeping up to 12 people.
Grove Villa is a second home we have shared successfully over recent years. It has a very well equipped kitchen. With the large studio sitting room, good HiFi and WiFi, a kitchen big enough to seat 16 and two downstairs bedrooms (one en suite) as well as three upstairs, the house is very popular with large family groups and other get togethers.
Grove Villa is located on the Welsh borders, in Herefordshire 6 miles from the bookshop town of Hay on Wye. Everywhere around Craswall the landscape is breathtaking from the Golden Valley right up to Hay Bluff, the Black Mountains and on into Wales. We have a great close by pub/restaurant (The Bridge, Michaelchurch 01981 510646) and lovely home cooked food at a farm restaurant (White Hayward Farm, Craswall 01981 510324) an easy walk down the road, who also do fish and chips on a Thursday night! From Grove Villa, you'll want to climb Black Hill and see the spectacular views over the Black Mountains. The Black Mountains has a unique past recorded in the castles, churches & houses of the area. The house has maps and tourist guides for walking, cycling, canoeing, pony trekking and sightseeing round the characterful Welsh borders near Hereford, Hay-on- Wye, and Abergavenny. Grove Villa is an excellent starting point for tours: the Black & White Village Trail, the Cider Route, & the Holy Valley. The region abounds in freehouse pubs, castle ruins, and wonderful walks, long and short.

Talgarth is a small traditional Welsh market town with interesting history dating back to C 12th when it was the capital of Brycheiniog. Nestled in the foothills of the Black Mountains and within the Brecon Beacons National Park we are surrounded by stunning countryside. Talgarth is proud of its restored watermill, which featured as a restoration project in the TV series Village SOS. There you can see the local grains being ground to make excellent flour blends and baked on sight selling delicious bread. Wander along the High Street where there are several shops selling local produce. Many of the buildings were previously shops and traders, having large street windows. In the 40's and 50's Talgarth boasted over fifty shops, but with changing times these have all but gone. In the town square there is an excellent tourist information centre, the Mill Crafts Shop and the co-op supermarket. In and around the town are a variety of places to eat or have a coffee. One of the prettiest features of Talgarth is the beautiful river Enigg which flows through its centre, with lovely grassy banks to relax on and take in the surroundings of the ancient stone bridge and lovely traditional stone cottages. Explore the 'top town' leading off the square where the handsome stone church is situated with many pretty cottages surrounding it. Take the narrow path which leads you the 'the rocks' and a foot bridge where the Enigg cascades over a succession of little waterfalls. A common sight here are dippers, yellow and grey wagtails with rarer sightings of otters. As you walk along Bell Street during summer months, enjoy the many house martins and swallows as they nest in the eaves of the houses. During summer months visit the local farmers market in the town hall in Market Square, usually the first Saturday of each month, details in the tourist information centre.

Known the world over as ‘Town of Books’ with Richard Booth opening the first secondhand book shop back in 1962. The Hay Festival of Literature is held every year during May, attracting famous writers, politicians, poets, musicians and comedians that provide entertainment over 10 days. This May also sees the return of ‘How the Light Gets In Festival’ celebrating philosophy and music. Apart from the festivals Hay offers many attractions throughout the year. The town itself is a maze of narrow winding streets full of independent shops offering quirky goods often locally made or produced for the discerning shopper, Thursday is market day with a variety of traders. With coffee houses and places to eat (many accepting our furry friends), Hay is a place you could loose yourself for hours. • Veldig fint sted å bo og god verdi for pengene.
