This is the perfect place for two adults (no children) to get away from the city. Our off-the-grid cabin is perfect for a private, romantic weekend, a contemplative retreat or base camp for adventures around Hood Canal and the Olympic Peninsula. There are good restaurants nearby with dine in or take out service. Local activities include kayaking, fishing, hiking, and more. We are dog-friendly and have a large, fenced compound. YOUR DOG MUST BE PEOPLE AND DOG FRIENDLY, AND UNDER 25 - 30 POUNDS.
A perfect get-a-way for two adults (no children, sorry) in a small cottage with water and mountain views from the deck. This is a very small private space with everything you need to be comfortable, and is really only appropriate for two adults. But, we are pet friendly...small, under 25 pound dogs only, though (see George and Luna pictures)! Note that there is a concrete sidewalk and stepping pads on a slope that may be difficult for some guests (seniors and anyone with limited mobility). Fold out double bed, kitchenette, shower and flush toilet. However, be informed that because of the small space there is no sink in the bathroom; the sink in the kitchenette is adequate and has an extendable two sided mirror for shaving, make-up, etc. Great restaurants, hiking, kayaking and outdoor activities abound. BBQ, beach access and WiFi. There's a lot to do locally, but if rest and quiet relaxation are what you need, this is also the place.
The cabin is separated from the main house, set in a corner of the property with views of the water and mountains. It is small and semi-private (we sometimes enjoy our patio outside that is about 50 feet away from the cabin deck). Enjoying the deck in front is very pleasant at any time of day. Enjoy your coffee in the morning or a libation in the afternoon.
Access is from the parking area at the top of the property through our yard, past a small log play house, our vegetable garden and the main house.
Hand built in the 1930's by my grandparents, the cottage reminds one of a "Hobbit" house (people six feet tall and up will have to watch not to bump their heads on entry and exit) and has been used by many guests, family and visitors over the years. It has been moved at least three times from it's original location. There is history here!
It has been completely remodeled and is clean, comfortable and up-to-date in all respects. You will find all the conveniences of home in a cozy cottage.
We have two very friendly dogs on the property, and we do accommodate well behaved dogs. Our 16 year old West Highland White Terrier, George, and my sister's 3 year old Flat Coat Retriever, Luna (see photos) will greet you warmly. They are both very friendly, may bark, but will not bite. If they pester you too much (they love new company) feel free to shoo them away or tell them to go home.
You have free Guest WiFi with no password.
A $25 cleaning fee and 10.5% sales and lodging tax is included in the nightly rate.
Hood Canal is a rural, resort area with a wide variety of housing. Water sports, fishing, crabbing and shrimping dominate the summer months with hunting, fishing and mushrooming occupying fall through spring. A full service marina in Union has moorage and fuel.
There are two fine restaurants and a deli within walking distance, a family run Mexican restaurant a mile away, and a convenience store with groceries and gasoline about a mile away, The Union Country Store across the street from the Mexican restaurant, Union City Market and a few small shops, boutiques and antique stores complete the venue. Shelton is only 20 minutes away and has all the necessary shopping (Fred Meyer, Safeway, Walmart, etc.).
We have a small oyster farm on our beach and would love to provide a tour if time and tides allow. We may permit you to harvest a few oysters if the area is open and the oysters are healthy. Please check with us before you arrive if you are interested. Fishing is possible, but is catch and release only except for hatchery salmon. A recreational license is required for fishing and harvesting oysters (URL HIDDEN) Minimum oyster size is 2½" measured across longest distance of shell and they must be shucked on the beach.
It is one hour to Olympic National Park or the ferry to Seattle. Two hours to the Pacific Ocean. Sunset views. Great golf courses nearby.
