This house was built during the Civil War! Go back in time here at the George Rider House! The kitchen in this apartment is really unique; George Rider, the original owner of the property way back in the mid 1800's, was a joiner, a type of carpenter specializing in cabinetry. George Rider was featured in an architectural history book on Italianite buildings of Bangor, Maine! He built the building for himself and his family, and the kitchen in this unit and the owner's unit, features the original cabinetry! There are many unique built-ins and features to enjoy, such as the old-time breadmaking drawer! The second bedroom has a curved rounded wall! I have written up some of the history so you can read about it, if you enjoy it like I do.
The way we cleaned before COVID-19, and for your assurance, we want to share how we will continue to clean during, and after this worldwide event: We clean with professional janitorial quality cleaners and disinfectants ("quats"). We've always done this for your safety. All fabrics are changed, of course. After a thorough cleaning, we put an ozone machine in the space, which kills any bacteria and viruses - we've always done this, it keeps the space smelling fresh, too. Changes we've made: We've added hand gel to the space, along with disinfecting wipes for guest use. Be assured the space is spotless before your arrival!
There is still a lot to do in our area despite the national emergency, while still maintaining social distancing! Maine's nature never closes! Acadia National Park is open 24 hours a day! Enjoy Cadillac Mountain, Sand Beach, Thunderhole, and the Carriage Trails -- and more! Enjoy exploring Fort Knox, and picturesque views of Fort Knox from Bucksport, across the shore, along with the Buck Monument and the Witches Foot! All the best lobster spots are roadside drive in and take out anyway!
This apartment has two bedrooms; a master bedroom with a brand new king bed, and the small bedroom with a brand new single bed. Both beds feature luxury high-end 3 inch memory foam toppers for your supreme comfort.
The master bedroom features a lovely fireplace which is as simple to use as pushing a button. It can be operated with heat or without, using just the LED's (fire-look, great to use in the summer when you don't want to use heat).
The furnishings in this apartment are all brand new, except for the many antiques generously sprinkled throughout the space, most from Lisa's own collection.
If you are looking for extra, you have found it! We love to go all out on details to surprise and delight guests!
The 55 inch smart TV is set up with Roku channels so it's ready to go. You can also use your own Netflix, Amazon, YouTube or other account, or bring along a Fire Stick.
The china cabinet is stocked with books to read for all age groups, and there are lots of games and adult coloring books for relaxing on rainy days in! Speaking of rain, rain sounds lovely in this apartment from the living room! The bottom drawer in the china cabinet has coloring books, construction paper, drawing paper and washable markers for kids!
We have made huge efforts to be sustainable and green. Our efforts are ongoing.
Gosh, we even recycled and saved a whole building for the sake of history! Read all about it when you arrive!

The neighborhood has a historic small town vibe, being the area first settled in town. You can walk from our quiet neighborhood two blocks and find a 24-hour Irving gas station if you've forgotten any necessities. Just a couple blocks further is an IGA grocery store, and a summertime ice cream-fried food stand. There is a park two blocks away in one direction (Dougherty Recreation Complex), and another park about 4 blocks away in the opposite direction (Brewer Auditorium Complex).
A short walk in the other direction leads you to the Brewer Riverwalk, a very pleasant walking area along the Penobscot River, where you can often hear music concerts playing from across the river. You can walk to downtown Bangor to enjoy free music concerts, Waterfront concerts or shopping. There are plentiful local pubs and breweries to explore, and amazing restaurants and seafood. Antiquing is a lot of fun here. There are local farmers markets to enjoy. Bangor has a City Forest Boardwalk (bogwalk), with labled plants and trees, it's very interesting.
