Basement walk-in efficiency apartment. Scenic country location on 11 acres with lots of walking trails around. Very centrally located - close to Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Durham, 3 hours to beaches and mountains.
NOTE: PLEASE READ THE CHECK IN INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY! If you don't, it can be hard to find the apartment, especially in the dark. You'll end up at our front door or driving around at 2 am shining your headlights in our bedroom window. Very detailed instructions are provided.
This is a basement apartment. It is located in a rural area on a gravel road and up a long, winding and often bumpy driveway. You'll enjoy a beautiful country setting. Seeing deer and other critters is common. At night you may hear cicadas, frogs, coyotes or the unique "vixen cry" of our resident fox couple. There are miles of walking trails in the woods if you're so inclined. You are 5 minutes away from Jordan Lake. Launch your boat if you bring it, or enjoy hundreds of acres of scenic views, walking trails and vistas. We have a pool that you're welcome to use in warm weather if you're comfortable with us and our pets (the pool is for the use of our family but we don't mind sharing with guests if you're cool ). There are cats, dogs and a horse on the property. You are in the woods in a basement apartment, wildlife and creepy crawlers are included, no extra charge!
Guests are welcome to use the pool in season, but we do need ten minutes notice in case we are hanging out there and need to prepare to transition from privacy to sharing. Just text and let us know you'd like to come to the pool. There will likely be other people at the pool as well as animals hanging around the pool. If you don’t like dogs or cats, or if you have kids who are scared of cats or dogs and being around them will cause your kids to scream, hanging around any of the areas where our family is likely to hang out might not be for you. The animals generally tend to hang out where we hang out. You're welcome to join in if doing so doesn't cause discomfort for either us or you.
If you are uncomfortable with country living this is not the place for you. We’ve lived here for 15 years and have never locked our doors. If you’re used to the city and don’t feel safe without locked doors this is not the place for you. If you are freaked out when you see a bug this is not the place for you. If you are expecting hotel level service and amenities this is not the place for you. We live in the woods. There are bugs and other critters about. A previous tenant patched some holes and mismatched the paint. The place is not perfect. It’s also not pricey. If what you seek is a very reasonably priced place to stay that is pretty and peaceful, provides basic necessities and privacy, you will probably like it a lot.
Because of our budget pricing, we tend to get pretty frequent long term guests. If you're staying for a month, you are expected to provide your own necessities. We provide trash bags, toilet paper, etc. for your convenience, for short term stays this generally means that a trash bag is provided and removed when the guest leaves. If you are living there for a month, you may need to replenish these things since you are living there longer term, and you should expect to provide the same sort of things you'd need to provide for yourself if you were at home. The set up for an overnight or weekend guest is a bit different than for a longer term guest.
We have had many lovely guests who have enjoyed their stay, and we have enjoyed having them. We are very laid back, easygoing, no-fuss kind of people. I've never given a guest a bad review, ever, even guests who have torn up my driveway, gotten stuck places they shouldn't have been driving, or left trash outside that I had to clean up after some wild animal tore it apart. You'd have to be a total jerk to get a bad review from me. It seems to work best if guests are similarly minded, laid back and chill. High maintenance guests would probably do better to select accommodations that provide a higher level of service and pricing. We like to enjoy life and not sweat the small stuff, and if that describes you then you'll probably have a great stay here. If you need a lot of attention and are into perfection, you'd be better suited for something that is priced higher and offers more hotel like amenities.
We live in the country but are very centrally located. You'll be 25 minutes from Chapel Hill, 5 minutes from Pittsboro, 40 minutes from Raleigh, 45 minutes from Durham, 30 minutes from Greensboro.
