Hey there! We’re Mike and Roze, a husband-wife team who have traveled the world. Our jobs brought us to purchase a fixer-upper spacious enough for our dogs near a jogging trail and downtown Wilkes-Barre. While we live here during the work-week, our travels as dog-owning vegans have shown us how difficult it can be to travel with multiple dogs & fix a healthy meal on the road. That’s why we are definitely open to hosting positive souls with a passion for kindness and respect for others’ homes.
Private entrance here! Lots of light permeate the living spaces, and with a modern kitchen featuring a five-burner gas stove and a dining room that can seat up to six guests, we can offer the kind of experience that hotels cannot. Our kitchen is fully-stocked with all the cooking essentials needed to make meals, and our pantry has many vegan items for guests who live plant-based lifestyles. Similarly, our treadmill is readily available for guest use, along with yoga mats for your yoga practice. Our TV features Chromecast for streaming from your smartphone or laptop (sorry, no cable here). For larger parties, we have a comfortable futon and a queen-sized air mattress. On a hot day, guests can use the A/C units in the bedroom and the dining room, or relax with a glass of wine on the comfortable and private front porch.
We cherish this space because we live here during the work-week, but we travel a lot and are willing to welcome the right guests in our absence. Ideally, our guests would be respectful, self-aware, and have reasonable expectations while staying in someone’s personal home. This property is not for people uncomfortable renting a space inhabited by pets and the homeowners year-round nor those unfamiliar with older houses of the East Coast. Any noise you may experience would be similar to noise you would experience at a popular hotel. There are wonderful hotels in the area, and we encourage you to check them out if you are seeking high-end luxury and not instead pet-friendliness, convenience, and space at a reasonable price point (as we do not charge for pets!)
Driving distance to local amenities:
15 secs to biking/running trail
6 mins to kayak launch
15 mins to Mohegan Sun Casino
15 mins to the Delaware River
50 mins to Poconos/Camelback and Premium Outlets
10pm is cutoff for alcohol sales in the county but Philly’s Phinest, only 3 mins away, stops selling beer at 11pm, and Convenient Beer, only 8 mins away, stops selling at midnight.
Shared spaces are also used by our upstairs tenant and include the basement (that has the unit’s personal front-loading washer and dryer), and the un-fenced backyard.
This duplex unit is located within Hanover Township near a dog-friendly running/biking trail that runs along one of the many waterways in the area. We feel safe walking and biking around these humble, working-class streets where our neighbors and local business-owners know each other well (the car mechanic on the corner is the nicest guy!), and we enjoy taking long leisurely strolls with our dogs in the evening and biking downtown for dinner when it’s warm. Our home is a mere 10-minute drive to many important locations and universities. Downtown Wilkes-Barre is a great place to explore!
What you’re paying for:
-A pet-friendly place close to downtown.
-While hotels offer one bedroom with communal areas, you get the privacy of an entire lower duplex unit (bedroom with private bathroom, dining room, kitchen, an office, and a large front porch, all to yourself) with a small backyard in a corner lot in a solid neighborhood.
Ultimately, Hanover Township may not be your cup-of-tea if you’re looking for a private estate in newly-developed suburbia or if humble, working-class neighborhoods scare you. Sorry, but that’s most of Wilkes. However, compared to other neighborhoods close to downtown, we feel safe and extremely happy here, and we hope you do too!
